Tips to Install Perimeter Seals around your Overhead Door

How do you prevent jamb seal stop mold (perimeter seals) from cracking?

Follow these three simple rules to help prevent jamb seal stop mold from cracking during installation.

1. Store all jamb seal stop mold indoors. Storing stop mold outdoors in the weather will make the molding more likely to crack during installation.

2. Do not use an impact hammer or nail gun to drive the nails during installation,

3. Do not use nails with a diameter > 0.1". Overhead Door recommends to use stainless steel nails with a diameter of 0.072" for jamb seal molding installation. Typical roofing nail diameters are much larger the 0.01" and have been known to cause cracks in stop molding if used for installation.

Does colder weather affect the installation of a garage door? Should any modifications be made to account for colder conditions (screws, nails, etc)?

Colder weather does not affect the installation of the garage door. However, colder weather does affect the operation of the garage door. Be sure to properly maintain and lubricate the garage door during the colder weather.
